Site News Plots for sale!
by Tia on May 14, 2008 1:29 amHave a story idea that you would love to write, but are too swamped with your other stories? Donate it! Post it in the 'plots' category. Maybe someone will be inspired and either be willing to co-write with you, or take on the challenge themselves. This is also a way to get feedback on possible ideas and maybe gain a suggestion or twist that you wouldn't have thought of on your own. For you graphic designers/writers, I know that for me there have been many times where I've designed the story graphic FIRST, and then taken the inspiration from that. Inspiration comes in all forms, not just through words. Images are still not allowed in the summaries because it stretches the page for those with smaller resolutions, but if you have a graphic that you think would be perfect to write a story around, feel free to post it within a chapter! I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with -Tia Problems updating stories
by Tia on Apr 30, 2008 2:36 pmI have received a couple of emails from authors having problems updating their stories. At first I thought it was a couple of isolated incidents, as one of the problems was resolved easily, but since I have received more emails since then, that is obviously not the case. I have checked the efiction support forum, and they have updated to a new version of their software (we are currently running 3.2, and they just released 3.4). Last I checked, they were still working out the bugs on the beta version of 3.4, which is why I hadn't upgraded yet. However, since 3.4 is released, I will be upgrading the software, probably sometime between now and Friday. This is just a heads up so that if the site goes down for a bit, you don't flood me (and JJB) with panicked posts and emails! And also on that note, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make sure you have HARD COPIES of your STORIES! I have said all along that I'm still learning about this efiction software, so *if* I do something that makes things go *poof*, I don't want the added responsibility (and guilt) of not being able to retrieve stories. This is me trying to cover your ass (and mine). Of course, there may be no visible difference except possibly some new skins. I'm just trying to cover all the bases here. For those authors who are having problems updating their stories, please be patient. If it is a simple matter of outdated software, then things should go back to normal after the upgrade. If you are still having problems, please email me again and we'll go from there. Thanks. *taps screen* Hello?
by Tia on Mar 03, 2008 8:51 pmWhoa--I think I scared everyone away with that last announcement! I haven't received a complaint/question/concern since December!!! For the new people who are lurking/I may have scared away, I don't usually bite (only certain people and only if you ask REALLLY nicely. ;-)) For you regulars, I'm going to assume that everything is good and there are no pressing issues I need to address. Anyway, no big news, just everything has been so quiet 'round here that I thought I'd post something new and see what's up. The Messageboard and Frequently asked questions!
by Tia on Nov 29, 2007 12:28 pmQuick note to those few who visited the message board: it has been deleted. I was tired of the spammers, and the lack of participation (although thank you to those of you who DID try). I have no plans to bring it back at this time, unless there's a LOT of requests and I find better software with higher security against spammers. NOW. On to the next subject... Excuse my mini rant/frustration here, but this is getting ridiculous. THIS IS NOT THE OLD NF.COM I have NO access to anything from the original archive. Therefore, I can NOT retrieve your stories, and I do NOT have any info on any authors if they are not registered here. If you were registered at the old nf.com, you have to RE-REGISTER here. Again, I do NOT have access to ANYTHING on the old site. (Is this beginning to seem redundant to anyone else? Have I made my point?) So. Before you email me asking anything about the old site, see above, think about it REALLY hard, and then decided whether you still want to send that email. Thank you. ANNOUNCEMENT: regarding negative reviews
by Tia on Nov 18, 2007 2:31 pmAs an author, there will probably come a time at one point or another where you will receive a negative review for one of your stories. It comes with the territory, especially when posted on a public and fairly unmoderated site like this one. It is not against the rules (or grounds to ban someone) to express a personal opinion. Nor is it against the rules to respond to that personal opinion, if directed specifically at you or your story. But when things become more personal than opinion, and other parties that are not directly involved are leaping in to something that is really not their fight, then things get complicated and drama ensues--as has been the case lately. I f you receive a review you don't like or agree with for whatever reason, DELETE IT. Do not show it to friends, do not respond to it, do not acknowledge its existence in anyway except as you hit the delete button. By doing so, you will have taken the first step in preventing possible conflict and drama over one person's opinion, and thus have saved everyone from potential headaches and stress. So, for everyone here who writes, reads, or is involved with NSYNC fan fiction and this archive in anyway, listen up: 1. Delete reviews you don't like/agree with/whatever. (see reasons stated above). 2. If the reviewer persists, email them with a rational response to their viewpoints. This is up to you, but I would also suggest not drawing your friends/readers into it right away. It's not their problem/battle unless you make it so. 3.) If a resolution one way or another through email cannot be reached, then it is the author's responsibility to report the reviewer to me or one of the other mods. Although I said delete the review(s) earlier, another option would be to save the reviews in a word document, along with your emailed responses back and forth and send it all to me. This way I can see how both sides have handled themselves, and respond accordingly. But again, this is the AUTHOR'S prerogative, NOT their friends/readers (no matter how much you may want to leap to their defense). With regards to the current situation that has prompted this post, both immediate parties have been addressed directly. It is over and done. You all have guidelines to follow in the case of a similar situation now. I sincerely hope that things will return to normal, and we can get back to what really matters, which is the fan fiction. *NF.com CHALLENGES community
by Tia on Oct 21, 2007 11:12 pmEver really want to write, but you don't know what to write about or just need a little inspiration to get it started? Like the challenge of writing fiction in response to prompts? If so, you need to head over to *NF.com Challenges! *and yes, I totally just stole that intro from Kaleena* *smiles* This is a community we have set up over at Livejournal, and yes, you DO need to be a member of LJ to post a response to a challenge and comments, so be sure to sign up! First challenge was just posted, so I hope to see some participants speak up soon. There will be no word or time limit; this is purely about giving you authors inspiration and prompts when whatever storyline/plot bunny currently poking at you has been momentarily stopped by writer's block. Again, I hope you all come check it out, and if you have ideas for future challenges, don't hesitate to suggest it! NEW NF.COM is UP!
by Tia on Oct 12, 2007 12:34 pm![]() Yeesh--you guys don't appreciate subtlety at all I went ahead and bought nsync-fiction.com and moved everything (except the message board which will be moved tomorrow) over, all without you guys noticing! I was trying to be all subtle and sneaky so that people would click the link and then be surprised, but nooooo. *mock pouts* Oh well. Only a couple of people noticed. Ruin all my fun, why don't ya.WF.com IS going to be going down; I didn't lie about that. The NEW links are: http://nsync-fiction.com (please start nominations for featured stories for next month!) http://archive.nsync-fiction.com (exactly the same; just changed the address) http://board.nsync-fiction.com (when I switch it over tomorrow) http://nsync-fiction.com/directory (new idea that I would like some feedback/participation from you site owners, please!) Awards and Challenges/request site will be up soon as well. Please spread the word, although I will be posting this same message on the archive. Any questions/comments, you know how to get a hold of me. -Tia Hosting contest on Tasting Eden
by Tia on Sep 28, 2007 10:45 pmEdit: It is now possible to link your stories within the chapters to your personal sites, rather than having to reupload/format everything. Finally! Hey guys--Hope everyone is doing well! We are officially into fall--can you believe it? Summer flew by, for me anyway. I've got a couple of notices for you, so here we go: 1) Tasting-Eden is having a contest for all you talented writers who want to be a part of the legacy. These are a fabulous, talented group of authors who have put their mark on *NSYNC fiction. If you want to be a part of history in the making, then go Sugar n' Spice: Tasting Eden's Hosting Contest for all the info. 2)I feel like I'm letting you guys down. At the beginning of the summer I had all these great plans on how to make the archive more interactive and fun, but then real life took over and I still haven't had a chance to follow through. So, I'm looking for someone who is willing to take over as admin and webmistress of this site. I'm still willing to host everything--I have more than enough space--but I'd rather someone else take over the day to day stuff, like new skins and promoting the board. Some of you have made the effort to help in little ways, which I greatly appreciate, even though it may not seem so. Maybe as things slow down a bit I'll have more time, but if anyone wants to volunteer, please email me. Thanks. Change is in the air...
by Tia on Aug 06, 2007 11:20 amMost notably that I am in the process of moving back home by the end of the month. Between packing, work, and school, I haven't had much time to play online (Although I'm pleased to see that except for a couple of things, everything has been running fairly smoothly in my 'absence'!) Right now my internet time is limited to Monday-Thursday while I'm at school, as I've already shut off my cable/internet at home. Alll this means is that things will continue in mostly the same vein that they have been now; I just wanted to give an official heads up in case something happens over the weekend and there's no immediate reply from me. As always, you can also email Kaleena and Jamie as well, and they will be happy to help out however they can. Or post on the message board if its a story-related question. Thanks, and Stay *NSY....er, nevermind. ;) Story banners; message board
by Tia on Jul 10, 2007 11:53 amFirst: we have a message board! http://archive.whimsicalfiction.com/board/ Second, STORY BANNERS/GRAPHICS ARE TO BE LIMITED TO INSIDE THE CHAPTERS ONLY. For those authors who have them in the summary, PLEASE take them down. I will be going through on Thursday and removing all graphics if they are not moved by then. Thanks everyone for your comments and suggestions! OH--one more thing. People have been asking about buttons/banners to link to the archive, but I haven't had time to make any yet. If you graphically-inclined people want to try your hand at it, I would be more than appreciative. Email them to nsyncarchive@gmail.com and I'll give full credit. Also, if there's an interest to start up challenges and awards (and someone to run it), let me know and I'll provide the webspace if need be. I just don't have time myself at the moment. Off to class; as always, email me, Kaleena or Jamie if there's questions/problems/suggestions! |
